I joined Mango Tree Counseling and Consulting as an intern because I sought to join a community that empowers Asian-Americans to reclaim their truth. The rubbing tensions of generational trauma, familial expectations, and society’s constantly changing expectations create a complex barrier in our relationship with ourselves and others – a whirlwind of cultural confusion. What appears to be a barrier is also a doorway in disguise. In a society that attempts to ignore or invalidate Asian American experience, I believe the key is within ourselves and like-minded communities. The more we connect with ourselves and others, the stronger we become; a beautiful form of collective resistance. MTCC’s mission resonated with my values to break down internalized shame, challenge stigmas, and discover new ways to honor our heritage without discarding ourselves in the process. My inspiration in this journey to becoming a therapist is to provide a place to take up space, move through trauma, and reclaim your truth with compassion while honoring the mess and the discomfort that comes with the growth.

Fun Fact: I have a fluffy corgi named Bumi that brings plenty of joy, adventures, and mischief into my life! And yes, it is King Bumi for my fellow Avatar the Last Airbender fans.
