About Me
I am a queer, 1st generation, Tamil-American woman from Washington DC. After working in nonprofit youth programming for a few years, I am currently pursuing an MSW in order to develop skills that will allow me to better serve community members’ individual and collective needs. I am passionate about collaboratively healing intergenerational trauma within immigrant families and families of color, who are often left out of conversations and research around mental health and community building. My approach is grounded in collaboration and liberation. I believe that its impossible to separate our individual and community experiences from the systems and structures we are operating within, so my practice is grounded in anti-oppressive frameworks that guide us in unlearning and navigating these oppressive systems.
I believe the therapeutic space can be a place of experimentation of self and others, where we bring in art, music, dance, or other creative elements from one’s own background to explore and navigate various aspects of life. As an intern, I am hoping to learn new ways to support individuals therapeutically, while centering equity and justice.
