About Me
I am Stephanie, a Master’s student in the Community and Trauma Counseling Program at Thomas Jefferson University. I was born and raised in Seattle and recently relocated to Philadelphia for my graduate studies. Before entering the mental health field, I was a self-employed marketing professional, eventually transitioning to focus on healing-centered practices rooted in social justice. My previous clinical experience includes working with folks experiencing substance use and mental health challenges from familial and systemic trauma.
As a Taiwanese American, I, among others, have struggled with the nuanced struggle of bicultural identity through tension in navigating societal norms of individualism and a collectivist upbringing. Feeling like an outsider has shaped my perspective and informs how I hold space for the ambivalence of grief of clients exploring the depth of their unique experiences.
My therapeutic approach to counseling is grounded in decolonizing therapy through anti-racist and anti-capitalist principles while recognizing how each person’s story of intergenerational trauma is woven into our history. I believe therapy can be a transformative space to examine and experience how intergenerational trauma, societal conditioning, and personal history influence our relationships with ourselves and others. Grounded in compassion and humility, I work with clients to deepen their relationships with themselves, cultivate skills for emotional resilience and self-awareness, and tenacity to empower their inner strength. My goal as a counselor is to create a safe, grounding, and supportive environment where clients can explore their identities with vulnerability and honesty.
