Joann immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh as a toddler, settling first in New York City until her family relocated to Maryland to be closer to extended relatives. Growing up in both NYC and Maryland, she was part of a vibrant and close-knit Bangladeshi community that fostered her deep connection to her cultural roots through regular participation in community and cultural events.

Joann holds a dual master’s degree in Social Service and Law and Social Policy from Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Prior to graduate school, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland. Her professional background includes experience as a child and family therapist, supporting individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, increasing access to medical care for seniors in the PA region. Joann also volunteers her time as a clinician working with current and former foster youth.

In her therapeutic practice, Joann draws from several evidence-based modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Her integrative approach allows her to support clients with compassion, flexibility, and a strong emphasis on meaning-making and emotional connection.
