About Me:

Hello! It’s nice to meet you, even if it’s through a pre-written bio while you look through this site. I hope you’re doing well.

My name is Sagar, pronounced like Soccer with a ‘G’. As you have probably already seen, I use He & They pronouns, feel free to use either! There are some additional identities I hold importantly, but we’ll get to it in a bit.

Being on this page, things are maybe less than ideal currently. Depression, anxiety, identity, purpose, relationships, and the general state of the world may be some of the things you are struggling with right now. I’m sure it’s a lot. And I’m sure we can try to make it better. My work and focus as a counselor are centering you, the client, and working to understand your world, your challenges, and most of all, your strengths. Therapy will look like us defining your current challenges, your past and how it has shaped you & your present, and working together to make sense of how these things connect and how we can work to help you live a life according to your values and dreams. At the same time this is a flexible space; therapy may look like talking, it may look like crying, it may also look like laughing about challenges, catching up on how this last season of TV made you feel, or how that video game or anime made you a bit of who you are. My goals are to meet you where you are at, hold space for whatever is coming up, to continuously work to be brave and honest, and to take one step forward, no matter how small.

To these ends, I describe myself as an integrated therapist, who uses a multitude of modalities of therapies depending on each client. My primary lens is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, also commonly known as ACT. This modality focuses on making contact with our difficult emotions, staying in the present, being mindful, and living according to our values, to name a few. I also incorporate elements of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral therapies, (commonly known as MCBT), where we label and challenge our automatic thinking and behavioral patterns, and many other practices listed in my bio. I also identify as a South Asian man, and all the fun & complex things that come with that identity; I especially bring attention to narratives of toxic masculinity, cycles of shame and honor, neurodiversity, and building grace for ourselves and focusing on the joy in our lives.

Some of the things that make me who I am are my love of humor, games, food, nature, biology, queerness, and anime. I’m also a 1.5 gen Nepalese-American immigrant, and grew up in Central Jersey. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh in Biology, and switched to studying Counseling Psychology at Temple, where I got my Master’s. I currently live in Philadelphia, and have been eating my way through the city for the past 3 years. I hope this has taught a little bit more about me, therapy, and brightened your day a bit, and I hope to meet you virtually (or in-person) soon!
